Curriculum

Designed to provide young children with active involvement in the learning process, we provide a variety of developmentally appropriate activities and materials that encourage the children to pursue with their own interests.

Students will have extended periods of time to choose the activities they engage in. Children have the opportunity to experience many types of activities that incorporate language, fine motor, problem-solving and other skills essential for academic success.

The four aspects of ECE that help to develop skills essential to future school success are:

  • Social/Emotional- during the preschool years this development is all about socialization. Three goals for this are for the children to achieve a sense of self, take responsibility for self and others, and behaving in a pro-social way. Social/emotional readiness is critical to a successful transition into kindergarten.

  • Physical- this includes the whole-body development. Gross motor (large muscle) and fine motor skills are needed with more control as the child ages. Physical activity contributes significantly to personal health and well-being.

  • Cognitive- involves how children think, how they see their world, and how they use what they learn. Three goals for cognitive development are learning and problem solving, thinking logically, and representing and thinking symbolically. Cognitive growth in preschool children is remarkable to witness.

  • Language- includes understanding and communication through words, spoken and written. Two goals for language development are listening and speaking, and reading and writing. Language and literacy skills go hand in hand, exposure to a variety of vocabulary, the more likely that the child will become a good reader.

Child assessments will be handed out in the fall and spring.
